What is Plumbing?

Plumbing is the process of dealing with passing fluids through a system. It is a huge part of construction processes. This technology deals with valves, pipes, tanks, and fixtures for their fluid transmission. There are plumbing systems from house level to industrial construction level. Mostly, we can take water distribution throughout a building for example. In addition, there is waste removal, and HVAC (heating and cooling) too. It is a field that is quite complex and vast. There are many processes that operate as plumbing works in construction. So, it is really important to use the best methodologies and equipment. Let’s see, what is plumbing and its importance.

The Latin word “Plumbum” gave rise to the word “Plumbing”. Plumbum is the word that describes lead. As ancient pipes were made with lead, plumbing gained its name. Nowadays, there are many technologies of plumbing. And also, there is a wide range of manufacturing material too. There are many uses of plumbing. We can never neglect this area when constructing a building. All the functionalities related to pipes and fluid transportation happen here.

Types of Plumbing

when considering plumbing in construction, there are two major functionalities. The first one is transferring water into the building for drinking and other uses. This mostly involves human use. On the other hand, the other functionality is removing wastewater. Those two are the most common domestic usage of plumbing. But on an industrial level, there are many other instances. So, the types of plumbing vary depending on the places where they are used.

The three most commonly used yet important types of plumbing systems are…

Portable water systems

Sanitary drainage systems

Stormwater drainage systems

They perform the tasks as their names suggest. In addition, there are Hydronics, fuel gas plumbing too. The types of plumbing vary depending on the types of plumbing pipes too. With time the plumbing industry is also evolving. so, there are multiple types and features of plumbing.

For instance, if we consider several types of pipes, there are steel pipes and copper pipes. Galvanized steel pipes are not that popular these days. the copper ones are quite useful in creating domestic water supplies. The most popular type is plastic. There is a wide array of plastic pipe types as PVC, PP, PBT, PEX, etc. Likewise, there are multiple systems and types of plumbing. The categorization can be even more complex when studying deeply about plumbing.

Purpose of Sanitary Plumbing

Sanitary plumbing usually deals with wastewater and other drainages. Handling sanitary plumbing properly is even more important than bringing water into a building. It must be handled properly with care. So, why sanitary plumbing?

When using a tap, we just get the water we need and do not give it a second thought. What would happen if nobody cared about it too, It may lead to accidents, sickness, and even death. The plumbers handle the process from one end to the other end properly. That is just an example. Sanitary plumbing makes sure the system operates properly and the fluid transference is safe and sound.

That is the basic purpose of sanitary plumbing. It can be either a tap or a sewer or anything. Safe plumbing is a must to consider. we have discussed what is plumbing and its importance. So, now let’s see the importance of a plumber in society.

Importance of Plumbing

Plumbing is a very important aspect of construction. Every building requires access to water along with a proper drainage system. So, that is why plumbers are really important for our life. There are many operations that the plumbers perform. For instance, they do the repairs of installed systems, they help to install them, maintaining plumbing systems, handle stormwater drainage systems too. So, who else is capable of performing these tasks other than a plumber.

As mentioned above, there are so many tasks that the plumbers perform. That makes them a hugely important aspect of the industry as well as society. Plumbers deal with one of the most important aspects to preserve life; water. and also, it is a really important factor in construction. Nobody wants to live in a house with no water. So, those make plumbing irreplaceable.

Importance of Plumber in Society

We never realize how much important the plumber is until something goes all wrong. For instance, a pipe leakage can destroy your whole kitchen. Or a broken pipe can waste a whole lot of good water. So, without a plumber, what are we going to do even? They are so much important in our day-to-day life.

Plumbers give their service to society through several sectors. The most prominent ones are health, waste removal, water conservation, and water reuse. They ensure public health by designing and implementing proper water transferring systems. That also involves accurate wastewater drainage. Nobody is going to perform such services other than the plumbers. If not for them, the roads may overflow within just one rain. And without them, we would have to bring our own water from wells. That’s just a general overview of the importance of plumbers for society.

How Plumbing Saved the World?

We discussed plumbing and its importance in society. So, now let’s see how plumbing saved the world. Unsanitary infrastructure is the reason for most of the plagues the world ever faced. Improper waste disposal leads to the spread of diseases even more. For example, cholera and the black plague caused so much catastrophe because of improper waste disposal. The first pumping system itself was created to treat the Cholera epidemic by Dr. John Snow. He realized, no matter how the disease was communicated, the root cause was insanity and improper waste drainage. That lead to saving thousands of lives.

The power and importance of plumbing should not be taken lightly. It is one of the reasons why our lives are healthy and comfortable.
